Giving yourself a break

Negative thoughts  >  Guilt  >  That time you said something hurtful about someone you love or thought something negative.

Shame  >  That time you forgot something or said a joke that wasn't funny

Hurt  >  That time you were told a hurtful comment

It's normal to give attention to these thoughts that pop up at times which in turn create feelings. However, you shouldn't give them all control over you, because if you do, they'll find a way to worsen your mood and make you sad.

We are our own worst critics, therefore, we give in to these negative thoughts, analyzing the events and everything surrounding them.

However, today, I heard a voice telling me to give myself a break!

The fact you thought something negative or said it to that person isn't because you are a bad person but because for that specific moment, minute, you were irritated. And, it's normal to act that way when one is irritated or annoyed. It does not define you!

The same goes for shame, if you feel ashamed, the people are what worries you, ''Oh! What if they remember that and think about how dumb I must be!''

But in reality, people take things lighter when they're about others and not themselves. Fun fact : The definition of why you actually are even thinking these thoughts.

As for hurt, it's always the other person's responsibility, it's never yours to worry about if it's true or not, hurtful words like we mentioned before, are often said without thinking and just impulsive. So, think about the fact this is not yours to worry about but their own process to figure out what they did and even heal themselves from the feeling of having been a mean person. It's their own shame. People often regret their bad acts, especially those done due to anger, that is, if they have a conscience, which they must normally have unless, say, they are sociopaths.
